Below is a film monologue I wrote for my English language coursework.
Villain Monologue
A man wakes up dazed and tied to an oak chair in the centre of a dark damp room. The chair is positioned under a flickering light bulb with fragmented wires spiking from the low ceiling. The silhouette of a dark masculine figure emerges from one side of the room. As his face eclipses the light his daggers for eyes are revealed along with his ominously warm smile which spread from cheek to cheek. He is wearing an all-black suit complete with a black tie and long ebony swept hair. Death clung to him with every breath he took in the freezing temperatures. He began to speak with his deep crackled voice gasping for oxygen at the end of each sentence.
“My father told me that there are two types of people in this world. The plants and the viruses. The plants live their lives day to day conforming to the rules of everyday life whilst the viruses set out to corrupt the system and live life constantly on the front foot. Now, let me tell you about Plant Cloning. You can take part of a plant and multiply it into an infinitely by breaking the rules of nature. This is fantastic because you can have hundreds, maybe thousands of the same species of plants. But the wild thing about this is that because these plants are all exactly, the same, which means if one of becomes infected with disease then the whole breed will die out together. You’re my infected plant Agent Wolf and I’m going to wipe out you’re breed of the FBI.
You’ve been out cold for almost 2 days. And what an ordeal it was to get you here. We’re in the alps Agent Wolf. We’re in the alps and you’re going to die. I’m looking forward to watching you suffer. My boys killed your college Agent Stavros, his death was cruel and bloody. He was barely recognisable when it was over. They told me he begged to die; the suffering was too much for him. Will you be the same? We will see. But first. You’re probably wondering who I am, how I know who you are and what my evil plan is. Don’t fear Agent Wolf you will find out soon.
It’s not a matter of life and death with you agents. You don’t have lives. You’re all the same. No emotion. No compassion. No feeling. They take everything you could be and turn you into, a killing machine. Yet, you call me a terrorist. Why a terrorist? Why not a freedom fighter? It’s a matter of perspective. You and I are no different Agent Wolf. You and I are no different accept people call you a hero. They don’t understand. It is the walls the system has built around us that will destroy this world. The walls that one day will one day collapse in on themselves. But that isn’t why I have you here today.
Now. Who am I? I got so carried away with myself that I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Hugo Lorente. Son of the late Antonio Lorente, who was the biggest arms dealer in the whole of Italy. My father was shot murdered outside our church in our home town. The whole family was there to witness it, even my children. We were celebrating a wedding and in a moment of joy he was taken away from us. My father was a great man, loyal to his work, he saved our family, he saved my future. We practically lived in poverty for most of my childhood but my father pulled through for us and then you took him away.
What I seek is not power or money. I seek vengeance. I know that you killed my father. I also know it was your boss who ordered you to do so. I am going to kill you and whoever it takes to avenge my father. I will kill and I will not care. Like your boss wouldn’t care about killing a so called terrorist. Your boss would be ‘doing her job’. Now who is the real villain here? We’re all murderers but who is the real villain? The real villain is whoever the public feel the least fucking sympathy for! If the public saw my pain, then they would love me. Everyone would love me.
I am the virus. You are the plant.
